The relation between the self esteem and the anxiety levels of children between the age-9-13 whose parents had divorced and the same range of whpm are not divorced

In this research, it was researched the relationships between anxiety levelsand self concepts of children(at 9-13 ages) whose parents had divorced and the samerange of whom are not divorced at the county of Kocaeli. Also with relation to this,it was tried to determine the meaningful difference between self esteems and anxietylevels of the children?s` parental marital status with respect to variables of theirfamily and their own some individual characteristics.The survey phase was related to the students attending to public schools` 4. 5.6. 7. and 8. grades during 2005-2006 education period in Kocaeli. The sampleconsisted of 308 students (175 girls, 133 boys) who were 9-13 years old among 17primary schools at random.In this research, Piers-Harris Children?s Self-Concept Scale, State-TraitAnxiety Inventory For Children (STAIC) and individual?s information forms whichwere related to students` individual and their families` characteristic informationprepared by researcher were used as a scale instrument.In this study, it was done the frequency analysis of spreading of answersgiven to the independent variables. The relationships between self concepts andanxiety levels of children consisting of scale group were analyzed by using thecorrelation method. Also, it was examined whether there were meaningfuldifferences between independent variables and dependent variables or not. It wasapplied ?F? test for more than 2 variables and ?T? test for bilateral variables todetermine whether there were differences among groups or not. ?Scheffe? test wasapplied to determine which groups caused the meaningful differences among thevariables.Those are the findings of research:1. It was determined that there was a meaningful difference between the anxietylevels (p<0, 05) and the self esteems (p<0, 05) of children whose parents haddivorced and had not divorced.ii2. It was not determined the meaningful difference between the anxiety levelsand their genders (p>0, 05) and the self esteems and their genders (p>0, 05)of children whose parents had divorced.3. While determined the meaningful difference in anxiety levels with theirgenders (p<0, 05), it was not determined self esteems with genders (p>0, 05)of children whose parents had not divorced.4. It was not determined the meaningful difference between the anxiety levelsand their ages (p>0, 05) and also the self esteems and their ages (p>0, 05) ofchildren whose parents had divorced.5. It was not determined the meaningful difference between the anxiety levelsand their ages (p>0, 05) however It was determined the meaningful differencebetween the self esteems and their ages (p>0, 05) of children whose parentshad not divorced.6. It was not determined the meaningful difference between the anxiety levelsand their ages (p>0, 05) and also the self esteems and their ages (p>0, 05) ofchildren whose parents had divorced.7. It was not determined the meaningful difference about anxiety levels betweenchildren whose parents had divorced and with whom they live (p>0, 05), andso were self esteems (p>0, 05).8. It was not determined the meaningful difference about anxiety levels relatedto children `s seeing their fathers (p>0, 05), and so were self esteems(p>0, 05).9. It was not determined the meaningful difference about anxiety levels relatedto children?s seeing their mothers (p>0,05), and so were self esteems(p>0,05).10. It was determined that the relations of average point (r=-, 542, p<, 001)between children?s anxiety levels and self esteems were high but in negativetrend among children whose parents had divorced and whose parents had notdivorced.
