The analysis of perceived social support level of adolescents whose mother-father are divorced and undivorced

This research is performed in order to analyse the perceived social supportof adolescents whose parents are divorced and undivorced in terms of various factors.This research was conducted in the district of Ankara Keçiören with total 20 primary/secondary school that depend on Ministry of Education during 2011-2012 academic year. In this study the sample was consisted of 8th, 9th, 10th grade 272 female and 196 male adolescents who are volunteer to participate in the study. In this study, ?Perceived Social Support Scale/ PSSS-R? (Yıldırım 2004) and ?Personel Information Form? were used to collect data. Double Factor Variance Analysis, t test and One Way Variance Analysis (ANOVA) were used in the analysis of data used in study.Results of the study indicated that parents? being divorced doesn?tinfluence the perceived social support of adolescents, girls perceive more social support than boys and 8th grade adolescents perceive more social support than 9th grade adolescents. Besides, it was found that the adolescents who have divorced parents and employed father have higher perceived social support than adolescents who have divorced parents and unemployed father. Another finding of the study is that other variables such as parents? education, meeting or not meeting with the parents, the people who the adolescent live with, the time period afterdivorce,the age of the adolescent when the parents divorced, mother?s employment, financial support from the parents, the parents? marriage afterdivorce, the number of brother / sister and birth order doesn?t differentiate the perceived social support of adolescents significantly.Key Words: Perceived social support, divorce, adolescence.
