Mother's perception of supportive nursing care in labor and affecting factors

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the perceptions of primiparas and multiparas women supportive nursing care in labor and the affecting factors. Method: : The study was conducted with 70 primapars and 123 multiparas women who stayed to the obstetrics services of İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital and Dokuz Eylul University Research and Application Hospital. The data of the study were collected by '' Descriptive Features Form '' and ''Scale of Woman's Perception of Supportive Care Given to Woman in Labor''. Data were analyzed number, percentage, mean, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis and Chi- Square analysis. Findings: The total score average of primiparas women's perception of supportive nursing care was calculated as 96.03 ± 28.10, while the mean score of multiparas women was calculated as 106.25 ± 3.62. A significant difference was found between the perception of supportive care in primiparas and multiparas women. The age, educational status, socio-economic level of the mothers, the duration of the delivery, the type of delivery, the status of participation in the pregnant class did not affect the diagnostic characteristics of the mothers' average score on the scale. A significant difference was found between how mothers evaluated their birth and the average score they got from the scale. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, the perception of supportive care in the labor of primiparas women was found to be lower than multiparas women. It is important for nurses to have a positive birth experience, especially for primiparas women, to inform and encourage primiparas women more, and to teach more non-pharmacological methods for their pain.
