Abstract (EN)

Vector arthropods are the carriers of many disease factors around the world. The housefly (Musca domestica L.) is one of the vectors frequently seen in human habitats and spread throughout the world except the poles. Determining breeding areas (solid waste storage facilities, household waste collection containers, animal shelters and slaughter areas) around human settlements and conducting integrated pest management is of great importance. The aim of this study is to determine the resistance levels of housefly populations collected from Alanya, Döşemealtı, Kemer, Kepez, Kumluca, Manavgat and Serik districts of Antalya province to diflubenzuron and pyriproxyfen. Houseflies were collected from the animal shelters between June and November 2019 with the help of net sweepers. Houseflies collected from natural development areas were placed in cages of 22x22x22 cm, brought to the laboratory environment, and cultured. Cotton dipped in milk was placed in cages where adult houseflies were kept under laboratory conditions in order to enable females to lay eggs. The larvae that emerged from the eggs laid on the milk were expected to develop in the nutrient medium for 24-36 hours and these larvae were used in the tests. Test doses were chosen from doses that caused death between 10-95%. The rates of larvicidal effect were determined by looking at the number of larvae that completed their development and matured and could not complete their development. All experiments were carried out under laboratory conditions with 26±2 oC temperature, 60% ± 5 humidity, 12 hours light and 12 hours dark photoperiod conditions. Resistance coefficients were evaluated with reference to the World Health Organization (WHO) susceptible laboratory population. In the tests conducted, Serik and Kemer districts were found in the high resistance range for diflubenzuron, and the other districts were found in the medium resistance range. For pyriproxyfen, the results were found in very high resistance range at all sampling sites. In this thesis, since the effectiveness of pyriproxyfen and diflubenzuron, which are the active substances used extensively in the fight against public health pests in Antalya province, is investigated, the data obtained from the thesis will be shared with the Ministry of Health and the municipalities in Antalya, and these institutions will contribute to a more conscious practice in combating house flies.
