Wood ornament in the mosques of Antalya

The wood ornaments in the mosques of Antalya have been investigated in this research. The investigated mosques are situated in the centre of Antalya and in its districts, in the villages connecting with these districts. The mosques with wood ornaments have been found only in 8 districts of out 19 in Antalya. Being 8-8 in Akseki and Elmaly, 4-4 in Alanya and Muratpasha, 2 in Korkuteli, 1-1-1 in Ibrady, Manavgat and Finike, totally in 29 mosques wood ornaments have been determined. Firstly, the sources have been investigated in the period of the determining of the mosques, thus some parts have been defined. The mosques whose name are not in the sources have been defined as a result of field investigations. The determined mosques have been tried to describe widely either from the architectural or wood ornamental point of view. Dimension stone (face stone), rubble stone, pitch faced stone, brick, bonding timber and adobe brick have been used in the building of the mosques that are included to investigate. All the wood ornaments have been situated in the structures. Ornaments are found in the alters, pulpits, rostrums, ceilings, doors, windows, columns. Motifs and compositions are in the plant origin, geometric, objective and writing styles. The striking, carving, digging, hemstitch or openwork, pen-work techniques have been used in wood ornaments.
