Evolution of Karaalioglu Park in Antalya as an urban park in Early Republican Period

The study examines the transformation of the Early Republican Karaalioğlu Park and its surroundings in the westernization process and its contribution to the urban texture. With this purpose, the park's location before it was organized as a park, the buildings in this location, the construction of the park and the services it offers has been examined chronologically along with the developement of its surronding. The history of Antalya's Eary Republican period and the history of Karaalioğlu Park and its surronding has been thoroughly studied within the subject's extent. Other parks constructed in other cities within the same period has been researched and an evaluation of Karaalioğlu Park with the other Early Republican parks has been made. It can be observed that within the process of Antalya Karaalioğlu Park's that the park has served as community home, cinema, country coffee house, sericulture school, kindergarten, stadium and had great contributions to that period's socio-cultural scheme. The park has also affected Antalya's urban developement with its location. Antalya Karaalioğlu Park has made a difference from the other parks built in the same period with the use of the region's climate and the influence of the geography in the selection of the park's building lot. The park has been actively used today, preserving its liveliness since its construction.
