Abstract (EN)
In this study, the clothing culture of Antalya in the Ottoman period is examined. This study, in which the estate records in Antalya sharia registers are used as the main source, covers the years 1809-1924. However, there are few estate records belonging to the first half of the 19th century in the sharia registers, and these generally belong to people who have gone to Antalya for reasons such as pilgrimage or trade. Therefore, satisfactory information about Antalya clothing culture has been reached since 1850-1860. In the study, one hundred and thirty different clothing materials were identified that were worn or worn from head to toe. Almost all of these clothing items are common clothing maretials of Muslims and non-Muslims from Antalya. It is seen that the clothing of Muslims and non-Muslims differs only in items that symbolize religious belonging, such as crosses, amulets or turbans. In addition, it is striking that professional activities are more effective than religious affiliation in the divisions in the field of clothing. It can be said that two Muslim and non-Muslim male civil servants residing in the city center of Antalya dress more alike than the two male Muslims from different professions, one living in the city of Antalya and the other living in the province of Antalya. Antalya clothing, which contains a very rich cultural heritage, exhibits common features with Anatolian clothing culture. Especially in Antalya, which has many common clothing materials with nearby cities such as Isparta, Denizli, Konya and Manisa, clothing materials from different cities of Anatolia can be seen. In this field, it is possible to find traces of different clothing materials imported not only from Anatolia, but also from a wide area ranging from Poland to Yemen, from Europe to India. It is observed that Antalya, which is seen to be in intense commercial and cultural interaction with the countries in the Mediterranean basin due to being a port city, has a very rich clothing culture. One of the most important factors that increase this wealth is undoubtedly the multi-religious and multi-cultural social structure of the Antalya region. Yoruk-Turkmen, who led a nomadic lifestyle, immigrants who migrated from the Balkans and Mediterranean islands to the region, and the multi-religious structure of the city contributed to the formation of a cosmopolitan society structure and thus to the emergence of a rich cultural accumulation.
