The Art jewellery in Aegean culture in Ancient Age: Examples From İzmir Archaelogy Museum jewellery collection

ABSTRACT In this research, the formation of Ancient Age jewellery that have protected their importance for thousands of years, the reflection of intercultural influence on techniques, materials and forms of jewellery and the collections of jewellery, which had been formed in the periods of Ancient Age, were examined. With the light of knowledge,which were obtained from the research, 34 pieces from Izmir Archaeology Museum Ancient Age Jewellery Collection were taken and their forms, techniques and designs were examined. The topic of thesis was determined as "The Art of Jewellery in Aegean Cultures in Ancient Period-Examples from İzmir Archaeology Museum Jewellery Collection". The study consists of four basic chapters. In the first chapter, under the topic of "General Scan over The History of Ancient Age Anatolian Culture", the development of Aegean Cultures in Ancient Age, the elements that had influence on these developments; the beliefs of Ancient Times and the influences were examined. In the second, chapter under the topic of "The Art of Jewellery in Aegean Cultures in Ancient Age", the tradition of use of jewellery in Aegean Cultures, the facts that effect the designs of jewellery and the reflection of these fact were examined. In the third chapter, jewellery collections that had been formed in Aegean Cultures in the periods of Ancient Age were examined under the topic of "The Art of Jewellery in Aegean Region in the Periods of Ancient Age and The Formation of Collections". Finally, in the fourth chapter, with the knowledge, which were obtained from the researches of first three chapters, some examples from Ancient Age Jewellery collection which exist in Izmir Archaeology Museum were examined in the view of design and technique. In this research, which was done with scientific methods, the aim was gathering the data, which were obtained by examining the form, technique and materials of Ancient age jewellery in Aegean Region, and visual material in a source and make it useful for the following studies.
