Abstract (EN)

The research based on the study of symbolism in Arabic poetry and adopts "Mohammed Al-Maghout" as a sample for the application of the study; it uses Al-Maghout's poems as a guide to show the symbolic elements in his poetry. The research identified symbolism by showing its origin and meanings in dictionary, and its meanings according to the terminology. In addition to figure out symbolism through the Arabic literature periods, or whether it had roots in those periods. The research expands to look for symbolism in the modern era, as a modern literary doctrine, looking for what brought about, what is its influence on literature, and looking at the reasons of the emergence of the symbolic doctrine, what is the doctrine and what are its most important characteristics and forms. The research assumes "Mohammed al-Maghout" as a literary figure, and analyses the elements and features of symbolism in his poetry and showing examples of symbolism in his poems. The study ends with the result that symbolism appeared in ancient Arabic poetry, but not as the formal shape, and by the coming of the modern era, symbolism has achieved the literary form and attributes of the doctrine.
