The impact of Ardahan fairy tales on values education within the context of the Turkish language curriculum

It can be argued that the rapid development and transformation of the world have had a detrimental effect on the preservation of cultural values. While extensive research is being conducted on sustaining cultural values, the importance of folkloric studies is also growing; these studies encompass the literary texts found within folklore. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze 40 folktales collected from the Ardahan region in terms of the "ten core values" outlined in the 2019 Turkish Language Course Curriculum. The objective is to determine the extent to which these ten core values reflect Turkish culture at a regional level and to assess the quality of Ardahan folktales regarding values education. While the universe of the study consists of Ardahan folktales, the sample comprises 40 folktales collected from the region. The values within these tales were identified based on the attitudes and behaviors listed in the "Values and Certain Attitudes and Behaviors Related to Values" table found in the report titled *On Our Curriculum Renewal and Modification Efforts*, prepared by the Board of Education and Discipline; these identified values were presented via direct quotations, and a frequency table was subsequently created. Following this, an intensity table was generated based on the page count of the tales and the number of values present in them. The study revealed a total of 296 instances of values across the 40 folktales. The most frequently encountered value was helpfulness (f=72). Based on an analysis of the content and the number of values found in the tales, it was concluded that they are suitable for use in the Turkish language course curriculum.
