Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic Lycian region walls

In this study, some wall samples that encountered in the Classical Period in the Lycian Region are discussed. The general aim is to compare the masonry styles of the walls of the buildings dated by various archaeological materials. With the Persian Sovereignty organizing the administrative structure in Lycia, reconstruction activities increased in the Lycia Region in the Classical Period. Therefore, with the Classical Period, we begin to see new masonry techniques in the buildings in this region. The masonry techniques (Polygonal, Trapezoidal, Rectogonal masonry etc.) used in the masonry and the details in the edge and surface craftsmanship of the blocks give us an idea for the dating of the walls. In this study, although not all the wall samples encountered in the Lycian Region are discussed, the examples showing general differences and giving clear dates are included. In the study, 48 wall structures belonging to 22 settlements were discussed. The different results that emerged enabled a wall grouping specific to the Lycian Region. It has been discussed whether the Lycian Region was affected by the outer regions, especially in the context of masonry. As a result of all these data obtained, conclusions about the Lycian Region masonry in the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic Periods were reached.
