Abstract (EN)
The most popular treatment for meniscus surgery today is arthroscopic repair or excision. The aim of our study; The aim of this study is to examine the clinical and functional results of patients who underwent arthroscopic meniscus repair, who underwent pie crusting and did not apply pie crusting technique. Forty-three patients who had arthroscopic meniscus repair between January 2017 and January 2021, had at least one year of follow-up, whose data were available, and who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Patients were accessed from the hospital registry system and archive files. Examination findings of all patients were evaluated at the preoperative and postoperative final controls. The patients who underwent meniscus repair by applying the pie crustin technique and the patients who underwent meniscus repair without applying the pie crusting technique. The duration of the operation, the time to return to sports activities after the operation, the Lysholm and Cincinnati scores before and after the operation were compared. Meniscus repair was performed using the pie crusting technique in 21 patients, and meniscus repair was performed in 22 patients without using the pie crusting technique. There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of surgical time (p=0.318). The postoperative Lysholm and Cincinnati scores of the groups were compared. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of postoperative Lysholm (p= 0.784) and Cincinnati scores (p= 0.511). Postoperative clinical and functional results and surgical times were similar and successful for the two groups. The advantages of this technique are that the visualization of the joint space is better in the errors in which the pie crusting technique is applied, and accordingly, iatrogenic cartilage disease is avoided. We believe that conducting more studies and sharing more case series will provide better information on appropriate guidelines and materials and contribute to the reduction of recurrence and complication rates in arthroscopic medial meniscus repair. Keywords: medial meniscus, pie crusting technique, arthroscopic repair
