Comparative analysis of cytotoxic effect of tradational fermented form and methanol ekstract of arum dioscoridis var. dioscoridis (araceae) on pankreatic cancer cell line

Cancer is one of the diseases that cause the most deaths after cardiovascular diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is the leading cause of death from non-communicable diseases. Pancreatic cancer, which is a type of cancer with a poor prognosis, has a high mortality rate compared to many other types cancer. Today, surgery and chemotherapy are frequently used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. However, healthy cells are also damaged as a result of the side effects of chemotherapy. Pancreatic cancer treatment is generally aimed at improving the patient's quality of life. Phtotherapy is also used as a complementary and alternative treatment method for cancer patients in our country. Arum L. species are plants that have a therapeutic effect on various ailments anda re used among the public and therefore deserve more research. The aim of this stufy is to comparatively investigate the cytotoxic effects of the leaf methanol extract of Arum dioscoridis var. dioscoridis plant, which is frequently consumed fermented in the Adana region, and the traditionally fermented Tirşik soup on the pancreatic cancer cell line PANC-1. The cytotoxic effect of four different doses (10, 5, 2.5, 1.25 mg/mL ) were evaluated at 24, 48 and 72 hours. According to the result obtained, no significant cytotoxic effect was observed in the 24- and 48-hour incubation periods, while dose-dependent cytotoxicity was observed in the 72-hour incubation period and the most effective dose and incubation period were determined. When the 72-hour period result were examined, the dose at which cell viability fell below 50% was determined to be 10 mg/mL . Additionally, the cytotoxic of leaf methanol extract was found to be higher than fermented broth at 72 h. In colclusion, this study provided data fort he discovery of an alternative therapeutic agent against pancreatic cancer with Arum dioscoridis var. dioscoridis plant extract.
