Determination of water quality of YD3 drainage channel and Akyatan lagoon in Lower Seyhan Plain

In this study, in order to determine the water quality based relationship between Akyatan Lagoon and Yuregir Drainage-3 (YD3 drainage channel), field studies were carried out in twenty-two sample regions in twelve terms, namely June 2018, January 2020, January, February, March, April, June, July, August and October of 2021 and May and August of 2022. Thirteen water quality parameters including pH, elelctrical conductivity (EI), salinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), temperature, total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD) alkalinity, chloride, phosphorus, color, and turbidity were monitored. In order to monitor the distribution of the relevant parameters in the Akyatan lagoon, regional distributions were determined by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In addition, an investigation was conducted for the deepening of the lagoon in June 2018, and the water quality of the lagoon and YD3 drainage channel was evaluated on a nutrient basis during May 2022 and August 2022. As a result of the research, it was determined that the pH, DO, temperature, COD, alkalinity, chloride, phosphorus, color, and turbidity values in Akyatan lagoon and all thirteen parameters examined in the YD3 drainage channel changed periodically. While EI, salinity, TDS, COD, and chloride parameters changed regionally in Akyatan lagoon, it was understood that pH and phosphorus values changed regionally in the YD3 channel. In addition, it was determined that Akyatan lagoon and YD3 drainage channel belong to the middle quality water class especially due to the high phosphorus parameter.
