Erzincanli Sheikh Fehmî Efendi in the framework of the memories of cook İbrahim Dede

Erzincan is one of the towns where Sufi life was alive in 19th century Anatolia. In this period when the Khalidiyya branch of the Naqshbandiyya was influential, the sect gained great favor from the local people when Abdullah Mekki, one of the caliphs of Khalid-i Baghdadi, came to Erzincan and appointed Mehmet Hayyât Vehbî as the caliph. Mehmet Hayyât Vehbî, also known as Terzi Baba, was well accepted among the people and was also accepted as the founder of the Nakşî-Hâlidî branch in Erzincan. It is seen that Sheikh Mustafa Fehmî Efendi, one of Terzi Baba's caliphs who took over the role of guidance in his place after his death, contributed to the implementation of the principles of Khalidiyya and the continuity of the sect. Another important feature of Fehmî Efendi is that he is the father of Sheikh Ahmed Fevzi Efendi, who is known for his contributions to the defense of the homeland during the War of Independence. So far, no independent academic study has been conducted on Fehmî Efendi, one of the important figures in the religious and Sufi history of Erzincan. The aim of this study is to provide information about Fehmî Efendi's life and mystical personality, and to sys-tematically re-express some of the information scattered in various studies by evalua-ting it. The most comprehensive information about Fehmî Efendi is found in the news reported by Aşçı Dede, with whom he lived for many years and witnessed an important period of his life. A memoir called Risâle-i Tercüme-i Ahvâl-i Aşçı İbrahim Dede-i Nakşî Mevlevî, which is also the main source of this study, gives us satisfactory infor-mation about Fehmî Efendi. As a person, it can be seen that Fehmî Efendi is knowing his life, struggle and Sufi personality will fill a gap not only for Erzincan but also for the recent Anatolian Sufi history.
