Abstract (EN)
The main elements that ensure that an individual has a sense of belonging to the society they live in are the values that that society has passed on to each other from generation to generation. The transfer of values that begins in the family continues in different courses along with the school period. In the Social Studies course, which is a multifaceted course that prepares students for social life, it is aimed to adopt the values of justice, family unity, independence, peace, scientificness, diligence, solidarity, sensitivity, honesty, aesthetics, equality, freedom, respect, love, responsibility, savings, patriotism and helpfulness. Since the values in question cannot be limited to the course curriculum only, the appearance of these values can be revealed in different areas and they can contribute to the teaching of values. In this way, the learning process will be supported by materials outside the course and will have a natural form that has spread from a didactic method to daily life. Folk songs, which are an important source in terms of reflecting the values of Turkish society and carrying their stories from generation to generation, were taken into consideration for this purpose and constituted the universe of the study. The partnership that emerged from the intersection of folk songs, which are a widespread cultural and artistic product, with the Social Studies course in terms of social values, played a role in determining the universe. The values of the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum were revealed on the sample obtained from the folk songs of Âşık Veysel and Âşık Mahzuni Şerif, who are considered to be the greatest folk poets of the 20th century and the most important representatives of the minstrel culture that broke new ground with their folk songs during their time. Written materials containing information related to the research topic were examined with the document review method. The content analysis technique was used in the analysis of 50 folk songs obtained through purposeful sampling, written and sung by both poets. In the research, it was concluded that the folk songs of Âşık Veysel and Âşık Mahzuni Şerif contained the values of the 2018 Social Studies course. Based on this, it has been suggested that teachers benefit from the folk songs of these two folk poets in the process of instilling in children the values of the Social Studies course taught in schools starting from the first and second stages of primary education (justice, giving importance to family unity, independence, peace, scientificness, diligence, solidarity, sensitivity, honesty, aesthetics, equality, freedom, respect, love, responsibility, savings, patriotism, helpfulness).
