Özet (EN)

Ships have being used for transportation, commercial and defense purposes for centuries. Therefore, shipbuilding industry has a fairly deep-rooted knowledge and experience. Further to that, naval platforms are indispensable for the national defense and one of the most important armed elements. Ships have an average life between 30-40 years. They are subject to numerous and costly maintenance and repair throughout their lifespan due to great number of subsystems and taking place on the top in commercial transportation in worldwide. Due to the fact that utilization and maintainance cost of ships throughout their lifespan is even higher than the initial investment, life cycle process of ships should be optimized and maintained cost-effectively. Besides the financial aspect of their life-cycle, environmental impacts of ships are also crucial. Throughout their lifespan (about 30-40 years) because of ship's size and number, ships could be environmentally hazardous in respect to waste/scrap material parts that are more than most industries. With the intention of prevention of this situation, ensuring the recycling/reuse ship-based waste/scrap material will provide a significant benefit to the environment, thereby the world. Within the scope of this study, throughout the lifecycle of naval platforms, repair and maintainance requirements have been analyzed in terms of operational and financial aspects. In the stage of utilization and maintanence, possibility of recycling/reuse for waste/scrap material is evaluated. Finally, thanks to recycling/reuse some kind of recommendation are made with regard to obtaining additional revenue and reducing the negative impact to the environment.
