Özet (EN)
Objective: To determine the frequency of vitamin D deficiency in patients with overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms and to investigate whether there is an increase in the rate of improvement in OAB symptoms after vitamin D supplementation in this group of patients. Materials and Methods: Premenopausal female patients who applied to the urology outpatient clinic of Kırşehir Training and Research Hospital for the first time with symptoms of OAB were investigated. OAB questionnaire (OAB-V8) and urinary incontinence quality of life scale (I-QOL) forms were filled in these patients. Patients with an OAB-V8 score ≥ 8 were included in the study. Anticholinergic treatment was started appropriately for these patients. In addition, the vitamin D levels of these patients were checked. Patients with measured 25-OH D <30 ng/ml were given vitamin D treatment. Vitamin D was given at 50,000 units/week for 8 weeks. At the end of eighth week, the patients' vitamin D levels were checked again and OAB-V8 and I-QOL forms were filled. The elevation of patients' vitamin D levels and the improvement in their symptoms obtained from the OAB-V8 and I-QOL forms were compared. Results: As a result of the statistical analysis, it was found that vitamin D deficiency was more common (86.7%) in patients with symptoms of OAB. According to the results of OAB-V8 and I-QOL forms, it showed more improvement than the group that did not take vitamin D supplements. When these two groups were compared statistically, no significant result was obtained (p=0.640 and p=0.421). Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency was found to be very common in female patients with OAB symptoms. Vitamin D may reduce symptoms when used with antimuscarinic agents, especially in vitamin D deficient women. We believe that OAB patients with low vitamin D levels may need to take vitamin D supplements in addition to the main treatment, and more studies in this direction should be brought to the literature.
