Abstract (EN)

Aim: In this study, comorbidity with different diseases is discussed in patients with Diabetes Mellitus. This study aims to determine the comorbidity of other diseases in patients diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes mellitus for a year or more. Materials and Method: Hospitals in 3 different districts in Istanbul were included in the research. Three hundred twenty-nine diabetes patients participated in the study. Research data collection tools include the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and the Cumulative Illness Rating Scale (CIRS). The data obtained from the participants of the research were analyzed in SPSS 22 Package program. Results: When the findings were evaluated, no significant difference was found in terms of comorbidity in patients with diabetes by age variable, gender, location, history of paternal diabetes, and regular diabetic drug usage (p> 0.05). However, a significant difference was found according to educational status and maternal diabetes history (p <0.05). Conclusion: The similar results obtained with Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) and the Cumulative Illness Rating Scale (CIRS) tools show that, the history of maternal diabetes and educational status make a significant difference in the emergence of diabetes mellitus and comorbid diseases. Keywords: Diabetes mellitus, metabolic disease, comorbidity
