Assessment the Nurses' knowledge and practices of standard precautions toward infection control in Nasiriyah city/ Iraq

Objective: This research aims to assess nurses' knowledge and practices of standard precautions for infection control and to know the relationship between knowledge and practices of standard precautions toward infection control and demographic data such as age, gender, resident, educational level, workplace, years of experience and training course. methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted Al-Hussein teaching hospital in Nasiriyah city in Iraq between 01/05/2022 to 25/09/2022. The research scientist consists of nurses who work at Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the city of Nasiriyah in Iraq. The number of the sample was determined to be no less than 300 nurses through the method of calculating the sample in cases where the universe is unknown. Data was collected face to face. "Nurses' knowledge" and "Infection control practices" were used to collect the data.Results: In the study, it was determined that the mean age was 5.58775 ± 29.0333 years and 57.3% of the women in the study group were between the ages of 20-30 years old.A positive relationship was found between age, gender, experience, education level, work unit, infection control evidence receiving HBVV, the presence of any infection control nurse in the hospital, infection control training outside the hospital and in the hospital, and nursing knowledge and practices however knowledge was associated with positive practices.Conclusion: It was determined that there is a strong relationship between nursing knowledge and practices and that knowledge positively affected practices towards infection control and infection.
