Turkish theatre in Ataturk period: Afife Jale and female stage actors

This study examines the changing of theatre comprehension in the first years of the Ataturk period according to the place of women in theatre, developments on theatre within the Atatürk period has evaluated. The struggle of our women to show their presence in Turkish theatre has taken a long time and opinions that supporting or criticizing them have expressed for female stage actors in this process. Afife Jale has struggled for Turkish women to get involved in Turkish theatre just as stage actors. Experiences of Afife Jale on stage as a first Turkish female stage actor is a difficult period as well as the art life of other first Turkish female stage actors. In this direction, the reflection process and impacts of the values and achievements based on the women-theatre context in the Ataturk period on community have evaluated. This research is aiming to reveal the contributions of these women who are "first" and pioneer in their profession by giving long and difficult struggles for the art life in line with the documents and resources.
