Evaluation of biophysical parameters of the skin in dogs with atopic dermatitis

In this study, the aim was to evaluate pH, hydration, skin temperature, elasticity melanin profile of skin lesions in dogs with atopy by corneometry. The animal material of our study consisted of 29 dogs, 19 of them with atopic dermatitis and 10 of them were healthy. To those of dogs referred to the Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Internal Medicine Small Animal Clinic. Dogs with skin lesions presenting 3 or more of the Favrot Criteria were included in the group of dogs with atopy which were then subjected to in-vitro allergy test and corneometric analysis methods. According to corneometric analysis, pH (p = 0.001), elasticity (p=0.003), skin temperature (p = 0.031) and melanin measurement (p = 0.014) were statistically significant in atopic dogs in contrast to healthy subjects. It was suggested that corneometric and in-vitro allergy tests may guide future studies on the selection of both diagnostic and treatment methods.
