The confession of God and time in Augustinus

In the history of philosophy, ancient and medieval thinkers had different perspectives about the concepts of God and time. A systematic examination of time could not be made until Plato. While Plato made this examination on the basis of mythology, Augustine aimed to explain the theology and the idea that time was the creation of God. In his work titled Confessions he positioned God above time by expressing that God was not bound to any time, because he had eternal and everlasting characteristics. Many thinkers have mentioned the prominent problems of their period in their works. Augustine, too, reflecting his period reached to the idea that God, on which the philosophical discussions dominated the Middle Ages, created time from nothing, as God created the things in the universe from nothing, too. In this study, it is intended to determine how Augustine, one of the important names of the Middle Ages, formed the understanding of the concepts of God and time, and what the nature of the relationship between them was, based on his work called Confessions. Then, by mentioning Plato's understanding of God and time, which Augustine followed in many issues, Augustine's and Plato's views will be compared, and Augustine's views about God and time will be investigated.
