Abstract (EN)
As an item of material culture, clothing is one of the most important elements that reflect the culture, traditions and customs of a nation. The need to dress, which started in the early ages in order to be protected from natural activities and to be covered, become evident with the change of civilization level living conditions. In addition, the way of dressing is shaped by the cultural values of the society they are in and they have distictive features from other societies. Strating from this point the fact that the regions in Anatolia, which hosted many civilizations for centuries and where different cultures lived together in harmony have their unique traditional clothes cause the formation of dressing differences in the same province, even between the center and the village. Local clothes are among the important cultural elements as they provide information about the regional characteristics as well as the traditions and customs of the communities in that region (Çulcuoğlu, 2007:91). Traditional clothing is considered as a real element and resource that reflects the local life of societies. When these clothes are examined, very important and unique art features attract attention (Çivitçi, Harmankaya, Üstün, 2012; 99). Turks living in Anatolia have not only transferred their feelings and thoughts to rugs and corpets through weaving for centuries; with shopes, embroideries, colors and motifs, they have reflected the understanding of art to these local clothes. In a way, they created their own silent alphabet with the motifs and patterns used in local clothes. Local clothing and accessories, whose use has decreased over time in the globalizing world, are important in terms of shedding light on ancient times, directing scientific studies, transferring them to future generations, and serving as a bridge between the past and the present. The purpose of this research; The aim is to research and examine the pattern, color, ornament and motif features of the traditional clothes of Aydın and to introduce this culture. It is aimed to use local patterns and motifs in modern designs, to guide the new generation designers and to keep the traditional culture alive. At the end of the study, 15 pieces of contemporary clothing were designed, inspired by the patterns and ornament motifs used in the traditional clothing of Aydın, and six of them were selected to be produced.
