Effects of grafting machines on graft success in quince sappling production

Abstract (EN)

This research was carried out at the Abant İzzet Baysal University, Vocational High School of Bolu research areas in 2016 and 2018 years. This research was conducted to determine the effects of three different grafting periods (March 15, April 15 and May 15) and three grafting methods (tongue by hand and wedge grafting by two different manual grafting tools (Machine 1 (3T Art brand) and Machine 2 (Zenport brand)) on graft take, graft sprouting, graft shoot length, graft shoot diameter and number of sapling to be sold at the end of one year in quince sapling production. The experiment was carried out in a randomized factorial parcels design with three replications and 15 plants per replications and the quince 'Ekmek' was grafted on two-year old Quince-A rootstocks in the nursery conditions. In conclusion, graft take percentages varied from 60.0% to 86.67% in first year, from 62.22% to 95.55% in second year. Sprouting percentages varied from 44.44% to 77.78% in first year, from 51.11% to 88.89% in second yerar. These parameters, tongue grafting performed on April 15 gave the highest results in both years. Graft shoot lengths varied from 31.67 cm to 40.10 cm in first year, from 32.14 cm to 40.59 cm in second year. Graft shoot diameters varied from 4.70 mm to 5.77 mm in first year, from 4.99 mm to 6.08 mm in second year. Number of sapling to be sold at the end of one year in saplings varied from 35.55% to 68.89 % in first year, from 44.40% to 77.78% mm in second year. These parameters, tongue grafting performed on March 15 and April 15 gave the highest results in both years. In generally among all parameters the best type of grafting was tongue grafting. The wedge grafting with manual grafting tools (especially Machine 1) gave the lowest results in all parameters. Grafting period on April 15 gave the highest results, March 15 and May 15 gave the lowest results in all parameters.
