Relations between natural environment conditions and land use in Bakırçay Basin

Bakırçay Basin lies east-west direction roughly, between Madra-Kozak block north and Yuntdağı block south.In field, alluvions exist in plain bottom; colluvial deposits in plain sides; volcanites north,south; continental-Neogene east; crystallized limestones in Soma; granodiorites in Madra Mountain?s highlands; metamorphics in Kınık,Soma; conglomerates south,east.It?s possible dividing field morphological units as coastline,basin bottom, erosion surfaces in low and high level. In basin, areas that slope is more %10 are inconvenient to farming.Mediterranean climate reign in field where average annual tempature changes between 14,4-16,4°C; average annual rainfall between 488-674mm. An apparent aridity occurs between June-October in region where a semihumid climate is seen. But surface-ground waters are used unconsciously.In field, there?re soil types that mainmaterial and climate conditions determine. Erosion continues rapidly because these soils don?t reached mature soil profile.Basin is in Main-Mediterranean vegetation zone (Mediterranean Zonobiome); a small part is in Mediterrenean-Mountain Vegetation Zone (Mediterranean Orobiome).In field, 1., 2., 3class lands are utilized as olive-dry farming area; 4.class as olive grove. Grazing pressure upon 5.class is increasing. 6.class are used intensively. 7.class are areas of stony,rocky,sandy?, water surfaces.In Basin, farming fields cover 43%, forest-maquis-garigue 41.6%, degrade lands %6.9, pasture 2.4%, others 5.3%.Field?s 55% is used wrongly-unconsciously. Farming is done on inconvionent areas at %26 of Basin.In field, lands should be used according land quality classes, xeromorphic species?s farming should be done in basin bottom. For Basin can be developed, ``Bakırçay Basin Management Center?? should be established, socio-economic life should be developed.
