Central nervous system infections are the significant cause of mortality and morbidity because of the developing in vital sites such as cranium and spinal cord. Menegitidis are iflammation of meningeal membrane surrounded brain and spinal cord. Many microorganisms such as bacteria, virus and fungi are the cause of menengitidis. The most frequently seen menengitidis are viral and bacterial. In this study, 100 meningitis cases diagnosed primarily in Gaziantep University, Sahinbey Investigation and Application Hospital between September 2009 and June 2010 were included. Cases were assessed for the purposes of age, sex, BOS appearance, BOS cell number, BOS cell type, BOS and blood sugar rate in synchronously, BOS micrototal protein, Gram staining, ARB staining, Giemsa staining BOS culture and BOS PCR results. In bacterial menngitis, the number of BOS cell was up to 100 in milliliter in 30 cases (30%). In 25 of BOS cases cultured (25%) agent was isolated. In BOS PCR results, S. pneumoniae in 10 and H. influenzae in 5 cases were isolated. As a result of BOS culture and/or BOS PCR, agent was isolated in 37 cases. Culture was negative in 12 of 15 cases isolated agent by BOS PCR. N. meningitidis was not isolated in cases by BOS culture and PCR.
