Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the revolutionary innovations of Ballet Russes, a ballet ensemble that lived its golden age between 1909 and 1929 and has influenced especially the Western societies of the period in every field of art and to examine the interactions with fashion in the Western societies from the 20th century to the present. In this respect, in order to recognize Ballet Russes, in the first part, ballet art is described. Sergei Diaghilev, one of the founders of the empire, is introduced and the conditions of the period and the effect of the orientalism movement he adopted are examined. In the second part, the main subject of the thesis is to present examples of Ballet Russes and its interaction with fashion in direct and indirect ways and to conclude that; from past to present it has a large impact on clothing fashion and is often a source of inspiration. In the last section, illustrations of original haute couture dress designs, inspired by the general characteristics of the costumes of Ballet Russes' most brilliant era, will be presented.
