Özet (EN)

This thesis aims to explore the challenges of both Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and India, and the host states. While breaking down the situation of refugees, the study compares the conditions in the refugee camps in both countries through certain patterns: social impact, political impact, economic impact through gender-related violence, security concerns, environmental condition, health conditions, drug and arms trafficking, and religious and cultural effects. This thesis assesses the domestic policies in Myanmar that affected the crisis, policies and the decisions in the host states that directly affect the lives of these refugees despite the presence of international bodies like United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. This thesis is important in the sense that it provides a rare comparative analysis of Rohingya refugees' conditions in both India and Bangladesh, through the lens of social, political and economic factors. With the help of a comparative examination, this thesis addresses the plight of Rohingya Muslims in Bangladeshi and Indian camps from multiple angles, and considers diverse experiences. This study finds out that refugees are subjected to various levels of social, political and economic problems which expose them to insecurity, bad health conditions. The findings demonstrate that the conditions of refugee camps in both countries are quite different. In Bangladesh, the migrants were welcomed before being urged to return to their home country due to religious ties. Although global communities have partnered in a variety of ways to alleviate people's burdens, Bangladeshi refugee camps are struggling with bad health conditions, security dilemmas, violence, and bad environmental circumstances, where the population is larger and unregistered smaller encampments lack sufficient oversight and rules. On the other hand, the thesis reveals that issues such as criminality, gender related violence and drug trafficking have not yet reached critical levels in Indian refugee camps among the refugees.
