An Expert system for determination of type selection of dams

There is necessity expert knowledge to estimate type selection of dams and to develop an expert system. Creating knowledge base for expert system, it was used knowledge of experienced engineering, symposiums books sponsored by ASCE, books related to dam published by experienced engineering, dam planning reports, knowledge of different faculty members and papers. It is used ESTA Shell program to make dam type selection expert system. In Chapter I, the aim and the content of study is described and literature about this study is presented. In Chapter II, characteristics of planning dam type are given according to recent developments and knowledge of experts. The development of dam types in recent years is studied in detail. In Chapter HI, the factors influencing dam type selection were studied for each dam type separately. The knowledge given in this chapter about dam type selection creates knowledge base to developed expert system. In Chapter IV, AI systems used in engineering are presented. Expert systems which is a sub branch of AI is studied in detail and ESTA shell program used in this study was introduced. In Chapter V, dam type selection is made using expert systems. Necessary rules for expert system was created and tabulated. Rules given here was made the program teach used in shell domain. The created program was tested in many dams built in Turkey according to dam planning reports and four of the applied selected problems were presented and interpreted.
