Life of Barpi, his poetry and his literary work

Barpı Alikulov is one of the most famous poets of Kyrgyz minstrel literature who was born in Suzak village on the southern side of Kyrgyzstan in 1884. Since his youth, he has continued his life by working with others constantly. At the age of 11, Barpi began to write poetry on his own without learning to read or write and without playing qopuz. He was among the Kyrgyz minstrels because of his success on the call-and-response- duets. Unlike the other Kyrgyz minstrels, Barpı has spoken poems with a realistic style in philosophical matters. His poems, which Barpı has said about love, show how high his talent is and how strong his rhetoric is. Kyrgyz poetry techniques of contemporary literature have an important place in the poems of Barpı. In addition, he also used oriental and western literary techniques in his poems. The poems of Barpı have been compiled by the government befor his death and these poems havebecome the cornerstone of the classical Kyrgyz literature .
