Abstract (EN)
Traumatic injuries are an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and traumatic brain injury is a significant determinant of this panorama. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is a measure of patient awareness or continuous that is nessessary frequently used by I.C.U intensive care units and neurosurgery ward , nurses around the world for the purpose of evaluating a patient's to verbal response and motor activity and eye movements. This research was conducted as a descriptive study to examine the nurses' knowledge working in the Brain Surgery and Emergency Department of Basra Training Hospital in Basra, Iraq. 100 nurses were interviewed within the scope of the research. For this purpose , a total information or data of G.C.S form with the ( 23 ) multiple questions was prepared by the good researchers to be responded by the nurses. Frequency (number, percentage) and chi-square analyzes were used in the presentation of the data obtained from the research. In the study, it was determined that 58% of the participants were under the age of 25, 55% were men in the majority, and 54% were married. When examining the employment levels of the groups examined, it was found that 55% of them worked between 0-5 years and that their education level was mostly (47%) graduates of a two-year nursing institute. of income level. The working nurses were generally satisfied (55%), the smoking rate was 56%, and the emergency room work rate was higher (55%). A significant relationship (p <0.05) was detected between the nurses' working age, work experience and education level and their general knowledge about GCS. On the other hand, it was also detected that there was no statistically significant difference between nurses' gender or workplace and their general knowledge level about GCS. In the research, suggestions such as improving the working conditions of the nurses, shortening the working hours, informing them about GCS etc. were included.
