In some European countries and Turkey parental leave application

Women in the labor force are in the disadvantaged group not only because of the continuing discrimination in recruitment and promotion, but also due to factors specific to the labor market. Therefore, correcting the conditions in the labor market does not completely eliminate the disadvantage of women. Because unlike most of men, the cost of working outside the home is higher, especially for women of professional or managerial capacity, since most women have no partner in managing their homes and taking care of their children. Therefore, even if the ongoing discrimination in the labor market is eliminated, women will still be disadvantaged by men through positive action policies or other such means. Unless the costs and benefits of various action policies are the same for men as for women, men and women are not equal. Therefore, it is unfair to treat them equally. In order to ensure that women act as their male counterparts at work, arrangements must be made in community organizations outside of society. For example, given that most men will not assume the primary parent role, it is very important for the non-discriminatory results that governments, as childcare providers, assume the role of male workers in necessary legal means. Especially in international law in the last two decades, the arrangements regarding the parental leave, which is put forward to ensure equality between women and men, to harmonize the work family life, and to allow parents to allocate more time to their children, should be improved, as in many EU countries. The aim of this thesis is to examine the general regulations in the European Union countries on parental leave, which is one of the initiatives that will enable women and men who are parents to reconcile their responsibilities arising from work, family life and children.
