Investigation on the antimicrobial effects of essantial oils of some spices

In this study, a total of 1 1 essential oils extracted from 1 1 spices (Thymus kotseyanus, Thymbra spicata, Satureja hortensis, Cuminum cyminum, Anethum gravenoles, Coriandrum sativum, Pimpinella anisum, Mentha spicata, Hyssopus officanils, Foenicum vulgare, Organium onites) available in the Diyarbakır flora were assayed for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activities. These essential oils of spices were tested against Bacillus cereus, Bacillus polymxa, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus thrungiensis, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli K12 and one yeast (Candida albicans 74). Teicoplanin 30 fig, Vancomycin 30 fig, Imepenem 10 fig and Gentamicin 10 fig were used as standart antibiotics. Tested antibiotics against microogranisms and these result were compared with plants extracts. It was found that the most essential oils of spices were showed antimicrobials effects.
