Impacts of some ecosystem properties on phytoplankton cell volumes

In this research, effects of different organic iron complexes on phytoplankton biovolume have been observed. Nine different treatments have been performed with Dactyliosolen fragilissimus, Guinardia delicatula, Heterocapsa triquetra, Nitzschia longissima and Skeletonema costatum. These phytoplankton cells biovolume values have ben calulated based on some standard geometric models in different days. Through these calculations, responses of these cells to three different Dissolved Organic Matter types ? Natural Organic Material and Humic Acid, Desferrioxamine, L-lysine hydraxamate- were observed. Effort has been made for maintaining certain measurement standards on the survey, whenever possible. Samples that have been used in this study were collected and fixed in Trondheim-Norway, under another mesocosm experiment which?s been executed recently. As for results, relations between species and treatments were found to be related, as well as distinctive. Keywords: Phytoplankton, biovolume, DOM, diatom
