Impact of negative behavior perception levels of physical education teacher candidates' on their decision making level

This study aims to investigate the effect of physical education teacher candidates' negative behavior perception levels on decision making. The study tries to answer the following questions: What is the physical education teacher candidates' perception level of negative behaviors? What are the decision-making styles of physical education teacher candidates? Do physical education teacher candidates' negative behaviors perception level, self-esteem levels in decision-making and decision-making styles differ in terms of their demographic characteristics? The study is designed upon such subheadings as the existence of a significant relationship between physical education teacher candidates' perception level of negative behaviors and their self-esteem in decision-making and decision-making styles. The study is important to give an idea about their ability to cope with the problems they face in their professional lives. This study is limited to the answers given by the participants to the data collection tools. This research is conducted with 149 people in total, 97 female and 152 male graduates who are continuing their university education. The students participating in the study were randomly selected. Statistical reliability was also applied to the scales used in our study. This is important in terms of showing the extent to which the collected data is free from random error (or sampling error) and to what extent the scale yields the same results in different time or groups. In addition, the consistency of the results is determined by multiple applications of the scale. Internal consistency reliability is used for the reliability of scales where multiple expressions are aggregated to form the total value. In this type of scale, each expression measures a part of the concept. Alpha coefficient (Cronbach α) is calculated by dividing scale expressions in different ways. This coefficient ranges from 0 to 1 and values of 0.80 and above mean satisfactory internal consistency reliability. The Cronbach α internal consistency value of the Negative Behaviors scale consisting of 21 items used in the study was determined as 0.946. The Cronbach α internal consistency value was found to be 0.586 in the Self-Esteem dimension of Decision-Making consisting of 6 items while the Cronbach α internal consistency value of the 17-item Decision-Making Styles scale was 0.608. The values obtained from the scales indicate that the reliability is at a sufficient level. Considering this information, we can conclude that physical education teacher candidates' perceptions about exposure to negative behaviors are low in accordance with the results obtained from the research. According to the results of the research, we can add that the physical education teacher candidates' perception of negative behaviors has a slightly positive effect on their avoidant decision-making levels.
