Evaluation of the relationship between the attitudes of physical education teacher candidates towards the teaching profession and the factors that are effective in their choice of teaching profession

Today, teachers have undoubtedly contributed greatly to education. The effective and efficient education process is possible by providing a quality education. As in most professions, attitudes towards teaching are one of the most important factors of productivity. Although it is known that teachers' attitudes towards teaching profession and factors influencing their preference for teaching profession directly affect classroom activities, they also affect the adaptation of the school system consisting of elements such as teacher, student, administration, servant. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the attitudes of physical education teacher candidates towards the teaching profession and the factors that are effective in their choice of teaching profession. In the study, 410 (275 male, 135 female) physical education teachers candidates were included in our study randomly on a voluntary basis. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS 22.0 package program. Percent frequency values, descriptive statistics, independent samples t test and One Way Anova analyzes were used as statistical methods. A significance level of 0.05 was considered. As a result; In the research, physical education teacher candidates preferred to prefer the profession of teaching the medium level, while the attitudes towards teaching profession were determined to be high. It was concluded that the attitudes of the women towards the teaching profession were more positive, that the 4th grade students had more positive attitudes than the 1st and 2nd grades, that the open education high school graduates had higher attitudes and that the attitudes towards the teaching profession were better. It has been determined that there is a decrease in the reasons of preference of female and male pre-service teachers when the attitudes towards teaching profession are increased.
