Investigation of the effective communication and professional attitudes of the physical education teachers and other branch teachers

The aim of this study is to discover the relationship between teachers' communication skills and their level of commitment to the profession. The study attempted to understand how different demographic variables reveal differences in teachers' communication skills and attitudes toward the profession. Furthermore, it has been attempted to determine whether or not there is a link between teachers' professional attitudes and effective communication skills. The study is limited to physical education and other branches teachers in Artvin, Rize, and Trabzon during the 2021-2022 academic year. In this context, 655 teachers, 385 women and 270 men, were chosen at random to take part in the study. The study's data collection tools included a personal information form, a Communication Skills Scale-Adult Form, and an Attitude Toward Teaching Profession Scale. The Shapiro Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests were used to determine whether the data was normally distributed. For pairwise comparisons, the Mann Whitney-U test was used, and for group comparisons of three or more, the Kruskal Wallis-H test was used. Pairwise comparisons were used to determine which groups the differences in the Kruskal Wallis-H test favored. To test the relationships between the variables, Spearman Pearson correlation analysis was used. All analyses were conducted using the SPSS 26.0 Statistics program. While there was a significant difference in communication skills based on gender and professional background (p<0.05), there were no significant differences in other variables (p>0.05). There was a significant difference in professional attitude levels based on gender, age, branch, professional background, and income level (p<0.05), but no significant differences were found in other variables (p>0.05). Furthermore, it was discovered that there was a link between communication skills and professional attitude levels (p<0.05). Given that effective communication affects attitudes toward the profession, future teachers who possess this skill will be more self-confident, social, and open to communication and interaction, and thus their attitudes toward the profession will be positively affected. In this regard, it is necessary to develop and support teacher candidates' communication skills and attitudes toward work, especially at the beginning, in order to be actively involved in the teaching profession and to train teachers with high communication skills.
