Examining the relationship between the physical education teachers perceived stress and their levels of physical activities

This research was done to examine the relationship between perceived levels of stress and physical activity by examining the perceived levels of physical activity and stress in different sociodemographic variables for physical education teachers. The research, using relational screening from quantitative research models, voluntarily included 338 (200 men, 138 women) physical education teachers who worked at the schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Gaziantep province. The research uses a three-part research form to collect data. The first part of the form includes questions of sociodemographic information of physical education teachers, the second part "The Perceived Stress Scale" (ASO), developed by Cohen, Kamarck and Mermelstein (1983), with Turkish adaptation by Eskin, Harlak, Demirkiran and Dereboy (2013), and the third, "International Physical Activity Survey" (UFAA-KF) by Turkish adaptation Öztürk (2005). The independent sampling of T-Test and one-way variance analysis (One-Way ANOVA) testing was used as variables came from normal distribution during the study of differences between groups. In the case of a meaningful difference in ANOVA testing, a Post-Hoc Tukey test was performed to determine the difference between groups based on homogeneity of variances. The Pearson correlation test was used to examine the variable relationship, and the multilinear regression analysis was used for the predictor calculations of variables. The study found that physical education teachers' learning status, graduating area, school type that they work, ASO and UFAA-KF do not lead to meaningful differences in their total scores and subsizes. The gender of physical education teachers in the ASO "stress/discomfort perception" subdimension, staffing status variable ASO "stress/discomfort perception" subdimension and UFAA-KF severe physical activity dimension, income level variable UFAA-KF severe and medium physical activity subdimension age variable ASO "stress/discomfort perception" sub-dimension, service time and duration variables in the organization where it is currently employed cause significant difference to ASO total scores and "stress/discomfort perception". It has been found to have an inversely meaningful, low relationship between the ages, total service time of the physical education teachers and the service time variables in the insitution in which they are currently employed and the ASO total scores and the Stress/Discomfort perception sub-dimension scores. When the relationship between ASO and UFAA-KF is examined, a reversal relationship between the scales has been detected. The overall level of metabolic scores decreases as the perceived stress levels increase. It has been found that there is a decrease in the stress levels that physical education teachers perceive as their physical activity levels increase. It is recommended that physical education teachers be directed to more physical activity to reduce perceived stress levels.
