Investigation of physical education and sports teachers' scientific research self-efficacy and attitudes and thoughts towards participating in TUBITAK science fairs

The aim of this study is to examine the scientific research self-efficacy of physical education and sports teachers and their attitudes and thoughts towards participating in TUBITAK Science Fairs. Scanning model was used in this study. The data of the study were obtained using both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. In the research, in order to examine the scientific research self-efficacy of physical education and sports teachers, "Self-Efficacy Scale for Scientific Research", "Project Competitions (TUBITAK Science Fairs) Teacher Attitude Scale" and "TUBITAK Science Fairs" in order to examine their attitudes and thoughts towards participating in TUBITAK Science Fairs. "Interview Form for Participation" was applied. A total of 52 physical education and sports teachers, 21 women and 31 men, participated in this study. In line with the sub-problems of the study, descriptive statistics were calculated, independent groups t-test and correlation analysis were performed. Content analysis was used in the analysis of qualitative data. According to the findings obtained from the research, physical education and sports teachers' scientific research self-efficacy and attitudes towards participating in TUBITAK science fairs are at a good level. While scientific research self-efficacy does not differ according to gender, their attitudes towards participating in TÜBİTAK Science Fairs differ in favor of female teachers. With these results, there is no significant relationship between teachers' self-efficacy in scientific research and their attitudes towards participating in TUBITAK Science Fairs.
