Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the occupational burnout syndrome levels of physical education teachers working in public schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in Hatay province in 2021-2022 academic year, by determining the effect of their "gender, age, marital status, educational status, exercise status, place of duty, institution, year of service, weekly course hours and income level" on their burnout syndrome levels. Material and Method: Total number of 213 Physical Education teachers participated in this study. Maslach Burnout Inventory test which was developed by Maslach and Johnson in 1981 and adapted to Turkish by Ergin in 1992 was applied to collect data. In this study, a survey model based on quantitative research was applied. Before analyzing the data, normality tests were applied. Since the kurtosis and skewness values were in the range of +1.5 to -1.5, the data were considered to have normal distribution. Since the data showed normal distribution, Independent Samples T-Test was used for pairwise comparisons and One Way Anova test was used for comparisons of three or more groups. In addition, the LSD test, one of the Post-Hoc tests, was applied to determine which group caused the difference in significant results. Findings: The majority of the teachers who participated in this study were male, 20-26 years old and single. Most of them had bachelor's degree and they had 1-5 years of teaching experience. Most of the participant teachers expressed that they do exercise, they are working in a district of in a secondary school, and they work 21-29 hours weekly. Moreover, most of the participants stated that they do not find their income sufficient. No significant difference was found in the variables of gender, educational status, place of duty, institution and weekly course hours. On the other hand, there was a significant difference only in the "emotional exhaustion" sub-dimension in the variables of age, marital status and years of service. Significant difference was found in the "emotional exhaustion" and "depersonalization" sub-dimensions in the exercise status and income level variables. Conclusion: According to the findings, it was concluded that Physical Education teachers in Hatay had very low levels of burnout in terms of thesub-dimension of depersonalization, and low levels of burnout in the sub-dimensions of emotional exhaustion and personal achievement. Key Words: Physical Education Teacher, Depersonalization, Emotional Exhaus, Personal Accomplishment, Occupational Burnout.
