Abstract (EN)
History serves as a mirror reflecting the course of human civilization. Looking into this mirror, it is evident that wars, natural disasters, and similar circumstances have brought both gains and losses. Individuals sometimes achieve prosperity, while at other times, they struggle with increasingly challenging lives. Disabled individuals face even greater difficulties in this struggle. In addition to the conditions of life, they encounter the repressive ideologies and attitudes of society, authorities, and various other factors. They are perceived as "others" and face certain sanctions as a result. The media plays a significant role in portraying disabled individuals as "others." However, it should not be forgotten that the media also has a healing aspect alongside its transmission of negative thoughts about disabled individuals. In this context, cinema, with its ability to reach large audiences, attracts attention through films that focus on disabled individuals and through the inclusion of disabled individuals as actors in films. This study primarily provides explanations related to disability and social deviation, considering the historical context of body and mind politics, and conducts analyses accordingly. An assessment is made within the scope of body politics and mind politics to examine how disabled individuals were represented in Turkish cinema in the 2000s. The films "My World," "Miracle in Cell No. 7," "Are We Okay?" and "Unconscious Love" are selected from among the films that revolve around disabled individuals in Turkish cinema in the 2000s. Using content analysis method, these films are analyzed to decipher how disabled individuals are represented. Keywords: Disabled individual, mind politics, body politics, society, cinema
