Abstract (EN)
It?s a known fact that serum levels of the tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF- ?), interleucin-6 (IL-6) and other proinflammatory cytokines which are released from the adipose tissue are increased in Behcet?s disease. We aimed to search the relation among levels? of visfatin with activity of Behcet?s disease, which is an adipokin released from adipose tissue.58 patients with Behcet?s disease were enrolled to the study. The disease was inactive of 19 of the patients. We enrolled 30 healthy subjects as the control group. We measured their white blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-Reactive Peptid (CRP), visfatin and Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-?) levels.Levels of white blood cell count was not significantly different among the control group and Behcet patients whether the disease was active or not (p>0,05). CRP levels were found to be significantly different among the control group and active Behcet patients (p<0,05). ESR levels were found to be significantly higher in active Behcet patients than the inactive ones and inactive patients than the control group (consecutively p<0,01, p<0,001). TNF-? levels found to be significantly higher in active Behcet Disease patients compared to the other groups and in inactive Behcet Disease patients compared to the control group (consecutively p<0,01, p<0,001). Visfatin levels were significantly lower in both group of patients compared to the control group (both p<0,001) but there was no significant difference among the active and inactive patient groups (p>0,05).We thought that the increased levels of the proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-? and IL-6 might suppress the visfatin gen expression as the cause of the lower serum visfatin levels in active and inactive Behcet Patients compared to the control group or another mechanism else.
