Abstract (EN)

Assessment of the effect on marital adjustment of demographic variables and symptoms in patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia The study was conducted in descriptive way in order to evaluate the effects of demographic variables and symptoms in people with BPH on martial adjustment. The universe of the study included 687 patients with BPH hospitalized to urology clinic of Gulhane Research and Training Hospital during the first six months in 2015. As a result of calculations, minimum sampling to be set by 95% reliability was determined as 247 individuals. The study was conducted between January and June in 2017. In data collection, "Marital Adjustment Scale", "International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS)" and data collection form were used. Mann Whitney U test and Kruskall Wallis H test were used for 2 group comparisons and 2+ groups comparisons, respectively. In case of being concluded as significant as a result of Kruskall Wallis H test, Dunn multiple comparison test with Benforroni correction was performed. Spearman Rho correlation coefficient was calculated for the relationship between marital adjustment and IPSS. It was found that majority of the participants were over 61 and that 96.36% had not martial adjustment. According to means of IPSS scores, majority of the participants were in severe symptomatic category. It was seen that there was no meaningful relationship between prostate symptom scores and marital adjustment level in individuals with BPH. In this study, there was no meaningful relationship between prostate symptom scores and martial adjustment level (p<0.05). It is assumed that it was because about 66% of the sample was 60 years old and over and that they had not a regular sex life.
