Geological-geotechnical assessment of the suitability of Bereketli (Tokat) region for settlement

Within the scope of the thesis, the suitability of an area of approximately 278,5 hectares, within the Bereketli municipality, Reşadiye district, Tokat province is geologically and geotechnically evaluated for settlement. The geology of the study area consists of regolith levels and alternations of Limestone-Marn belonging to Maastrichtian-Paleocene aged Akveren formation (KTa), agglomerates with basalt blocks with alternations of tuffite and tuff and decomposed volcano-sedimentary units within Middle-Eocene aged Tekkeköy formation (Tet), and Quaternary aged deposit alluvion (Qal) units along the right and left sides of Şavşak creek. Within the scope of the thesis, 20 geotechnical bore holes were opened and laboratory tests were carried out on samples obtained from field tests and drilling wells for the zoning plan in the region. Geological and geotechnical properties of the research area and engineering parameters of the surface have been specified, determining the different hazard zones related to effects of the earthquake and local surface conditions, and in the wake of the assessments made, the study area has been evaluated regarding suitability for settlement.
