Bergama`s epitaphs

ABSTRACT Turks came to Anatolia and started development and construction movements. This is understood from the rich civilisation. The central point in Turk- Islam arts is architectural works. Beside architectural qualities of art work, the funtionel and esthetic elements inside the building and outside consist the study. Every building is constructed according to it's own architectural and some writings are put in the suitable places. These writings are called inscription, the science which searcher this is called epigraphy. The language used in these is Arabic, Persian and Turkish. One of the important centres in which Turk-Islam works are is Bergama. In this area, from the XIII. century, there are some works. In the end of our study, we found out that the writings of Turk-Islam works in Bergama were not studied enough. Therefore we tried our best to examine inscriptions in the religious and civil buildings in detail. We established 19 inscriptions. These are registered, classified and analysed. Our thesis consists of two sections. In the first one, we give some historical information. In the second section, some information about inscriptions in the center of Bergama was given. In this section, buildings are classified chronologically. The text of incription was given firstly in Arabic, then was transcribed. They were analysed from the point of view of calligraphy and language. Our thesis ends with the bibliography and glossary.
