The aim of this investigation is to determine the primary stabilization and stabilization throughout the healing time for sinus floor augmentation with a 1-step lateral approach where the residual bone height < 5 mm and to compare it for sinus floor augmentation with a a-step lateral approach where the residual bone height is ? 5 mm. Forty implants were inserted to 28 patients atrophic maxilla immediately after sinus floor elevation. Sinus floor elevation was performed with a lateral approach. Panoramic radiographs were taken prior to surgery and 10 months after surgery. The implants are divided to 2 groups according to the residual bone height. Control group was consisted of patients with residual bone height ? 5 mm and the experimental group < 5mm. All the implants were inserted simultaneously with the sinus floor elevation and the primary stabilization was recorded with Ostell ISQ? at the days 0, 21th and 60th day. The mean residual bone height was 2,5 mm (range 1-4,5) in the experimental group and 6 mm (range 5-8) in the control group. At the follow up one year following insertion all implants were stable. The mean ISQ values at the 60th day after insertion was 70,7±2,7 at the experimental and 73,1±3,2 at the control group. There was no statistically significant difference between the ISQ values at the post op 60th day (p=0,024), and all the implants in both groups were stable at the time of abutment placement.
