Thesis)Mustafa SEM ZGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJanuary 2006ABSTRACTThe physical characteristics and alternative production of concrete keystoneswhich are used in Ankara urban environmental layout is researched in this study.The experiments for the determination of the shape and dimensions, splittingtensile strength, abrasion resistance and water absorption ratio on the 72number of conrete keystones obtained from the four different firms thatproduce conrete keystones and the 80 number of alternative concrete keystoneshas been carried out.In alternative concrete keystone production, the period of compaction is takenas variable. The concrete keystones are produced by applying vibrations of 4,6, 8 and 10 sec. In addition the veathered and damaged concrete keystoneexamples seen in the Ankara streets are examined.Consequenty, concrete keystones produced by applying 8 and 10 sec.vibrations, gave better results in all testes, compared to concrete keystonesproduced applying 4 and 6 sec. vibrations. In alternative concrete keystoneproduction, it is seen that the experiment results of the samples, which areexposed to 8 and 10 seconds vibrations, are compatible with the valuesspecified in the standard, hovewer the values are lower compered to theproducts of two firms.Science Code : 714.3.035Key Words :Concrete Keystones, Experiments and Physical characteristicsPage Number : 53Adviser : Prof. Dr. M.
