Abstract (EN)

The gross cross-sectional area of the columns is calculated according to TBDY 2018, satisfying the condition Ac ≥ Ndm/0.4fck. The axial compressive force Ndm used in this calculation is defined as the maximum axial compressive force resulting from the combined effect of the dead load G, the reduced live load Q, and the earthquake effect E, calculated under the combination of G + Q + E. While the axial compressive force caused by vertical loads can be easily calculated, the axial force caused by the earthquake effect is calculated only after the system is sized. In this thesis, approximate values have been determined before entering into the sizing calculations to determine the axial forces arising from vertical loads and earthquake loads in non-shear and different shear reinforced concrete columns. For this purpose, specific ratios (kP, kE) have been determined for vertical loads. These ratios, multiplied by the combined effect of vertical loads G + Q, provide an approximate calculation of the axial forces in the columns under earthquake effect, thus facilitating the sizing calculations. The thesis consists of four chapters. In the first chapter, an introduction to the subject is provided, along with information about the purpose and scope of the study. The First chapter explains in detail how the necessary parameters for calculating the base shear force using the Equivalent Seismic Load Method in accordance with the updated seismic regulation are obtained. In the second and third chapter, the design of a hospital building, assumed to be 6, 9, and 12 storeys high, without shear walls and with different shear walls, is carried out to determine the ratios aimed at the objective of the thesis for three different seismic points and five different soil classes. In this process, tasks such as preliminary sizing, determining earthquake parameters, and calculating base shear force were carried out. Additionally, axial forces caused by vertical loads and earthquake loads in the columns were calculated based on the given information. In the Result chapter presents the coefficients obtained from the calculations (kP for vertical loads, kE for earthquake loads) for 6, 9, and 12-story hospital buildings without and with shear walls for three different seismic points and five different soil classes.
