Maintenance, repair and raehabilitation of concrete piers

Concrete piers, that are a type of the shore docking structures, get worn-out not only by the design burdens, but also by the environmental agents, overusage, equipment breakdown and general wear and tear rates. The corrosions; observed due to many reasons, but mainly due to the corrosion affect of the sea water; at concrete piers that serve our country shores and harbours, have reached serious levels. Reviewing these matters in a systematic research, has critical importance for the national economy and maritime business. The purpose of this study, is to create a useful analysis for the future repair and maintenance of concrete piers in our region.There are many reinforced concrete piers at Aegean Region. A big portion of these are aged over 20 and have serious corrosions. In this study, the current conditions of priorly the Aegean Region?s piers have been researched, current bases and regulations related to the construction of the shore structures have been explicated; and suggestions on repair, maintenance and amplification of reinforced concrete piers have been presented.
